Planet 5 2.4 GHz TX and Receiver kit I intend to buy the Planet 5 2.4 GHz TX and Receiver kit for my Micro Magic yacht.  Could someone give me some advice please? What comes with the kit? What is the voltage required for the receiver? What about an on/off switch and cable? What type of Battery holder is needed? What type of batteries do you need for the receiver (AA – P3)? What connection do I need from the battery to the receiver? What type of Servo would you advise for the Sail servo? What type of Servo would you advise for the Rudder servo? Thinking of the Hitec range? What type of Servo would you advise for the Sail servo? What type of Servo would you advise for the Rudder servo? Are there any tutorials on the forum for this type of setup? Any think I require? I would be very grateful for a reply. Best regards Mersey Trainz Stephen Roberts

thats a lot of questions Stephen!
I recommend to everyone new to MMs - speak to and get your boat and equipment from Mike Weston at Swanley - RCYachts.org.uk - he can supply everything you need at different specs to suit different price ranges and offers expert free advice - he is the current UK National Champion so knows what he is talking about - in my view its a false economy to get equipment cheaper elsewhere from a box-shifter (off ebay for example) who has zero experience of the MM or the equipment best used - sorry to be so blunt - as I say, this is only my opinion
        -----
just remembered - re the Planet system - Im sure Mike was using one last time we sailed and was well impressed with what it offered for its price
and just a reminder - even if you cant sail at the Nationals next weekend down at Coal House Fort - if you can make it down one day just for a look/chat it would well be worth your while to see the top boats in action and to check out how they were put together and what equipment are being used - and chat with the skippers for help in building/kitting yours out etc

Seems to me unless your name accounts for something no one takes any notice of these comments. i have been singing the praises of T5 for long enough, don't get me wrong, I don't race so don't really know the ins and outs but I do see that Mike is now selling this system, is he gonna comment that it actually is cr*p?? I don't think so!

What are you trying to say? You sound pretty uptight about somthing.

For information Mike sells what works, he isn't a big outlet. If you have issues with anything he will sort it and take it up with his suplliers.

Buy where you like it's your choice. Mike may be able to add a lot with his experience in the class.

Racing or sailing in a large number of boats can affect functioality of radio equipement, espeicaly low power radio. Experiance does have value!

        Hi Stephen

I use the Planet in my MM and its works fine..I use two 850mah AAA powerpacks (although I have gone allday on one and no problems)....I don't use a switch but I have a short (100mm) extension that I leave in the receiver and plug my power pack directly into that...I would buy the servos from Mike Weston they are the ones for the job.... I velcro the receiver into the underside of the canopy to keep it away from water as much as possible. Hope this is helpful.
